The research group on Human-Digital Systems announces its 2011 call for PhD students. This international recruitment program is open to outstanding candidates seeking to undertake a PhD program in 2011 in any of the research areas of the group. Successful applicants will work under the supervision of a group researcher who is affiliated to one of the Doctoral Programs at University of Minho and will be offered a grant within one of our research projects. We have a total of 6 grants to be allocated in the topics of Pervasive and Mobile Systems, Mobile Payment Systems, Human-Computer Interaction and Intelligent Transportation Systems.
About the Recruitment Program
This recruitment program offers prospective PhD students assistance with the preparation of the PhD process, including PhD applications and applications for funding. Moreover, successful candidates will have the opportunity to experience research work at the highest international level as well as the possibility to build up a CV that improves student chances of getting external funding for continuing their PhD studies.
We seek candidates with a good MSc degree in one of the areas of Informatics Engineering, Communications Engineering, Ubiquitous Computing, Human Computer Interaction or equivalent. Applicants must be proficient in at least one programming language, must able to fluently speak and write in English, and must be a dynamic and highly motivated individual (m/f) with a strong willingness for independent thinking, self-learning and team-work. The candidates should have a curriculum that allows them to apply with reasonable success expectations to one of the PhD programs at University of Minho (including the joint MAP programs).
The grants are for one year minimum and may be extended according to the timings of the respective projects. The grants are expected to start between March and September 2011 by arrangement with the successful candidates. The award includes a stipend of 11760 Euros per annum (tax exempt), health insurance, social security, research-related travel expenses, and research equipment.
How to apply
Applications should include a cover letter summarising the reasons for the application, a detailed CV, 2-3 recommendation letters or contacts that could be used for obtaining recommendation and transcripts of academic qualifications achieved.
Applications should be submitted electronically to admin[at]humandigitalsystems.org with a subject line containing “PHD-Call-2011”. Applications will be evaluated according to the merit of the academic or professional curricula. Pre-selected candidates may be called for an individual interview.
This is an open program running between March and September 2011. There will be open positions until the end of the application period, in September 2011, but some of them may be filled as soon as we find appropriate candidates and, therefore, applicants are encouraged to submit as soon as possible.
Prospective candidates are invited to contact the researchers at the Human-Digital System group for additional information about the research opportunities and informally discuss specific research interests.
