Large scale networks of pervasive public displays are an emerging new form of communication that can have the same potential as television or internet, for example. Just as any other successful information system, content is the key to unlock this kind of networks’ potential. The design of suitable applications should provide both dynamic and interactive content to these systems.
The pervasive public display application model differs significantly from the traditional model of web development, which means that the existing development tools are too generic to give effective support to such applications. Also, to automate the developer tasks, increase his productivity and the final product’s quality, a Software Development Environment (SDE) should be crafted meeting the application model requirements.
This work will accompany the development of a broad range of pervasive display network applications trying to uncover common abstractions and development patterns that may contribute to the design of a new SDE to improve both the quality of the application and the time span of its development.
