Exploring the new boundaries of computing in everyday life

Welcome to the web site of Ubicomp@UMinho, the Mobile and Ubiquitous Systems group at University of Minho. The integration between physical and virtual spaces will ultimately lead to a world in which our physical environment, with its embedded electronic devices and situated services, becomes an integral part of our information systems and a privileged context for interaction. This extension of computing into our everyday lives has been termed ubiquitous computing.

The ubicomp@UMinho group aims to create systems and services that are strongly situated, that leverage on the specificities of mundane life, that are centred on core human values, and ultimately deliver some value to people. Our research addresses the continuously evolving boundaries of computing in our everyday life. We have exciting projects goin on, involving state of the art technology, complex technical infrastructures, and above all the ability to combine competences from multiple fields and a thorough understanding of the social-digital eco-systems for which we are developing new systems.
